8vo, pp. 445. Original maroon boards, lettered in gilt to spine. Printed dustwrapper, with author's photographic portrait to rear panel. Illustrated endpapers. Top edge red. Near fine copy in a very good dust jacket, a little wear to corners and spine ends.

First edition. Filmed in 1981 with a cast led by Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons, and directed by Karel Reisz from a screenplay by Harold Pinter. The film was shot on location at Lyme Regis and was nominated for five Oscars, with Streep and Pinter among the nominees.
